New Job, Delicious Treats, Growing Belly

Fruit Dessert

So this past week was my boyfriend's birthday and my mom's. Early in the week was Chinese Buffet and tonight, The Keg. I've eaten numerous tarts/pies/who knows what else this past week as well. Ugh.

However, tomorrow I start a new job (and my first job at) a Bakery! Yay! The only thing I've heard is that I will be doing a lot of cleaning this week, which is fine by me. In a past summer job, they had a section in the factory called 'The Sludge Pit'. How bad can cleaning a bakery be? Did I mention they make Scottish Baps?? Best buns ever....

Here is a sample of the items I have been making recently. Let me assure you, they are ALL quite delicious (especially the icebox cookies!)

Fruit Tarts

Chinese Almond Cookies

Icebox Cookies (With Cherries and Ginger)

Biscotti

Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies

Pink Cupcakes For My Niece

Eclairs

Cream Puffs

Swans

Assorted Pastries

Assorted Cookies

School, Bread, and Apprenticeship

I have been a student at George Brown College for a month now. How time does fly..

This week concluded our section on bread, and let me tell you... I haven't eaten so much bread in my life! I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the process and I will probably attempt to make some at home on my week off. Next up is Cookies and Squares... mmm...

In the mean time, I need to find a place to do my Apprenticeship in September. I'd love to do specialty cakes and such when I'm done at GB, but I'd love experience in everything. I just want to learn as much as I can!

Drawing For Cake!

This week is all about hugo arias week. His solo show is this thursday, and I am doing the cake for the event!

I'm still deciding on decorating, but I think I have it pretty much figured out with what I'm going to do. I plan on doing a devil's food cake bottom and a banana cake on the 2nd tier. Should be delicious if nothing else!

Turns out, my neice and I made it to the local paper, Snap! For the same thing, Broken Arts Fair at the Oshawa Public Library. Check it out:

Also, you can view the piece that I submitted in Station Gallery in Whitby. There are a lot of great artists and amazing pieces of work! Purchase a ticket and bring a piece home!

I'm Famous!

Well.... not really. But I did end up having a picture of me in the Oshawa Express recently! Check it out:

Also, I will be attending George Brown this May (as in a month from now) for Baking and Pastry Arts! I'm scared shitless AND super excited, so now I'm working two part time jobs to help make some money before I start. I also have some cake order stuff coming up, plus I'm moving the end of May. This year, while slightly crazy, seems to be looking up for me.

It's also looking good for my boyfriend, hugo. He has a solo show coming up in April, an article about him coming out in Lush Magazine, and we're so busy, we've barely seen each other. Check out his stuff and more info on his show at www.blamethesky.com

Tomorrow I actually have a day off, which hasn't happened in over a week. Perhaps some painting is in order...

Sew Sweet!

Well, my first solo show is up! That's super exciting for me. The plans are underway for the reception this coming friday... And I'm actually nervous! It's weird knowing my friends/family/whoever are going to show up just got see my work in a cafe... Hopefully some of them like it!! I'm pretty shy at showing off my work...

My neice is turning 2 this friday, and seems to like balloons and candy (and airplanes and flags) more than anyone I know! I found this cake on cakewrecks, and plan on using it as my inspiration for her birthday party!

Anyways, hope to see people friday night! I'll be the one blushing in a corner somewhere...

Art, Work, and Cakes, Oh My!

I have been working on art, getting more cake orders (3 due this weekend!) and also working full time doing some temp work for the next month and a half. Needless to say, it's getting a little hectic.

I have not gotten a start date yet, but sometime within the next month or two, I should be having a show at a cafe downtown Oshawa. More details to come, I hope! My cake section is getting bigger, and that is not because I have put it before my art. I want to leave some surprises for the show.

I recently sold the piece, "Sewing Bird", which I have mixed feelings about. It's always wonderful to know that other people like and want your work, but it was the first piece that made me fall in love with buttons. It started me in this direction. Luckily, I know it is going to a fantastic home!

If anyone is interested in purchasing my work, please let me know via email. They are all for sale unless it says otherwise beside the title of the work. Thanks!

The Blogging Begins...

Hugo and I at the Grad Show at The Ontario College of Art & Design, May 2009. Not sure who the artist of this picture booth was, but we had fun!

So I have contemplated writing my first blog message for awhile, but figured I have nothing of importance to say that people would care to read. This is not to say that I do now, but perhaps getting the first one out of way will allow the creativity to flow...

April 30th was the Drawing for Art! event at the Whitby Station Gallery. I had donated a piece of artwork ("Love Birds") and someone chose it as the one they wanted. I'm happy that somebody other than my mom likes my work. Thank you!

Right now I'm just working on expanding my body of work. A few more pieces should be up on the website soon! A big thanks to my boyfriend Hugo for setting that up for me. Technology and I aren't best of friends yet, but we're trying..

My bakery section has already gotten a little bigger, as I have taken some cake orders. One of them I was working on it late at night and on the hundredth batch of icing, my mixer broke :( A big thanks to my good friend Shannon for saving the day on that one...

Other than my all that and Twilight obsession, I'm going to see Pearl Jam for my 3rd time in august! I'm excited and definitly looking forward to it.

I'm pretty sure a few years back when Blogging became popular I thought it was so pointless and said I'd never do it. And here we are...
